I hate to say it but you might need to take a hard look at the motherboard if you are sure all of the other components are not the cause.

That said it still looks to me lieka video card issue. Do you know if your computer had any high heat issues before this problem?

If something overheated it could have cause issues with the motherboard.

yea... that could be the issue, the fans were on "smart" settings for a year, hardly ever going.

Well then that makes me think it is heat related as idle temp is lower than when you are pushing it as in playing a game. Heat causes all kinds of strange issues like what you’re experiencing.

You can blindly try adding or changing the fan’s in your case to something high flow and capacity. A large 140mm fan is going to move more air and cool things better than a same 120mm fan and with less noise. An H70 CPU does a great job at cooling the CPU but the issue might be with the video card. Make sure all of the cables in the case are out of the way so you don’t restrict any air flow. The air cooling of a video card is efficient but if the heat in your case is already high you will be screwed as you blowing hot air on the GPU.

My GTX 8800’s added 20 degrees to the temp in my case when I put two of them in and I had to add two 120mm fans to compensate.

If you can get a fan/temp probe controller and connect your CPU, case fans to it so that you can turn them up to 100% RMP. Stick the temp probes on the CPU and GPU on the video card so you can monitor the temp. If you need help in connecting this equipment up just look on youtube.

CPU's have a rated maximum temperature sometimes called a critical temperature. What this boils down to (quick pun :} ) is what the manufacturer states is the maximum temperature the CPU will operate at. This is not to say you want your CPU to operate at this temperature as it will be borderline between working and burning out. Always try to keep at least 20C below this value if you can.

Also did you get this reading from a temp probe or the BIOS? The BIOS uses an average measuring system which is not very accurate. It could be off by 20-30 degrees.

well that does not look to high to me. Can you check your GPU on your video card? That might be running hot. You might need a temp probe to do this.
